SUMMARY:Songpath at Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:Songpath at the Montrose Beach Bird Sanctuary\nFriday June 10th\, 6:-7:30 PM\nLast summer\, many of you joined me and other sound artists in Chicago on the Summer Soundwalk Series hosted by the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology and Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks program.  This year\, I will be kicking off the series with a Songpath at Montrose Beach and Bird Sanctuary on Chicago’s north side\, right on lake Michigan.  Come join again for this free event! \n \nSongpath is a compositionally guided listening hike intended to transform the soundscape of a public space into a musical experience. By deeply listening to the space and dissecting all of its various sonic elements\, we will walk down a predetermined path together that has a sonic trajectory\, stopping along the way to listen\, in silence\, to what is happening in the moment along that path. Led by composer and sound artist Ryan Ingebritsen\, the Songpath has been a creative activity of his since 2010 where he led his first series of hikes in the Minnesota State Parks. Since then\, he has developed hikes in state parks and locations across the Chicago area. This particular hike will explore the space in and around the bird sanctuary using the sounds made by the lake\, the trees\, and the birds themselves to reveal the hidden acoustic features of this picturesque and secluded part of Chicago’s north side. \nIMPORTANT!\nParticipants will meet behind the Dock Cafe right across the parkway from Montrose Harbor. \nJoin Midwestern Society for Acoustic Ecology in our summer soundwalk series! Explore the beautiful nature of the Chicago Public Parks in an experience led by faculty and alumni from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and fellow teaching artists. \nExperience the sounds of Chicago from a new perspective!\nThis series is in partnership with Chicago Park District and Night Out In the Parks which brings arts and culture to over 500 parks across the city\, free and open for public participation.\nFor more information about our organization\, visit mwsae.org\nAny questions?
